China's chenille yarn sector hit RMB 15 billion in 2025, +14.2% YoY, accounting for 45.8% of the global microfiber chenille fabric market. Jiangsu and Zhejiang together hold 57.4% of national capacity, clustered in Jiangyin, Zhangjiagang, Shaoxing, and Huzhou. Global microfiber chenille fabric trade totaled approx. USD 1.83 billion in 2024, with China, India, Turkey as key exporters; US, Germany, Japan, Korea as core importers. By material structure: polyester-based chenille remains mainstream at 61.2% market share; viscose/modal blends 24.5%; recycled PET (rPET) eco-type, though only 8.3% today, posted +42.7% growth 2023→2025 - the fastest across all chenille segments. Silk/wool composite high-end stays at 6% on cost and process limits. Application mix is shifting from home-textile mono-drive to "home + DIY craft + light fashion" tri-wheel - the core reason overseas inquiry structure changed in 2026.
Compliance: ESPR Enforcement July 19, Chenille Home-Textile in the Crosshairs
EU Eco-design for Sustainable Products Regulation(ESPR) entered into force July 18, 2024; textiles are a priority product group. From July 19, 2026, EU large enterprises are fully banned from destroying unsold apparel, accessories, footwear; SMEs transition until July 2030; micro-enterprises exempt. From Feb 2027, enterprises must report discard volumes, weights, and reasons in unified format. Layered on May 15, 2026 JRC release of DPP Content Study for ESPR Textiles, the Digital Product Passport turns traceability, recycled content, and carbon footprint into a mandatory structured digital ecosystem. DPP currently excludes intermediate products (standalone fiber, yarn, fabric), but EU-bound brands are already pushing "GRS + OEKO-TEX Class I" double certs upstream to self-protect - rPET chenille captures the clearest premium here.
Consumer Side: TikTok #ChenilleCardigan Makes Chunky Chenille a Cross-Border Hero SKU
Fall-Winter 2025, chunky chenille blankets and oversized chenille cardigans sustained momentum on TikTok and Pinterest; #ChenilleCardigan crossed 100M views, driving reverse B2B re-orders for "heavy-count, space-dyed, anti-pilling" chenille cones into EU/US craft brands. Downstream split evolved from "sofa mill + home-textile mill" dual, to "home-textile + cross-border small-B + craft brand" triple. Lavender purple, oat, caramel brown, moss green - low-sat earth tones with chenille pile and drape - were the re-order core colors for Chinese mills at Heimtextil 2026 and Paris Déco Off 2025.
Process: Shedding & Pilling Are the Two Questions Overseas Buyers Ask Most
Chenille's legacy pain points: weak pile anchoring, pilling after wash, uneven fuzz. 2025 mainstream upgrade path is core-spun structure + double-ply + anti-pill finish - rPET or polyester core, viscose/modal/combed cotton as pile; controlling pile length 0.8–1.5mm and twist ratio to keep shedding under 3%, with OEKO-TEX Class I available. Space-dye and spray-dye let one yarn carry 3–5 colors, fitting DIY "ombre blanket + ombre scarf" programs - highest repurchase SKU among small-B buyers.
