Acrylic fiber is made from a syntheticpolymer called acrylonitrile. lt is producedby reacting certain petroleum or coal-basedchemicals with a variety of monomers. lthas a wool-like aesthetic and can be usedon its own, or blended with other naturaland synthetic fibers, which enhances itsstretchiness, luster, and warmth.
HISTORY
Acrylic was created in 1941 by DuPont andtrademarked as Orlon. However, it was notproduced in large quantities commerciallyuntil the 1950s.

SPINNING pROCESS

Semi-worsted spinning frames are suitable for producing yarn counts of 1-12. They can combine multiple strands.
Worsted spinning frames are suitable for producing yarn counts of 10-20s. The yarn is uniform.
Manufacturing process of acrylic fiber
Dry spinning (microscope morphology)
Dry spinning is a process where a polymer (such as polyacrylonitrile) is dissolved in an organic solvent (such as dimethylformamide or dimethylacetamide) to form a spinning solution. The solution is then extruded through a spinneret to form fine fibers, which enter a high-temperature drying tunnel. Inside the tunnel, hot air quickly evaporates the solvent, causing the polymer to solidify into fibers.
Dry spinning forms a peanut-shaped cross-section. The structure of polyacrylonitrile fiber produced by dry spinning is uniform and dense, and its appearance is like silk, which is suitable for weaving imitation silk fabrics.
Wet spinning (microscope morphology)
Wet spinning is also a process where a polymer is dissolved in a solvent, but the spinning solution is extruded directly into a coagulation bath (such as water or a mixture of solvents). In the coagulation bath, the solvent diffuses into the bath liquid, while the polymer precipitates and forms fibers. The fiber cross-section obtained by wet spinning is basically circular.Wet spinning is suitable for producing fine-denier fibers and soft fibers, with irregularly shaped cross-sections, a softer texture, and better moisture absorption,The fiber is soft and fluffy.
Both processes have their own advantages, with dry-spun fibers having high strength and wet-spun fibers being softer, suitable for different application requirements.
