Products Description
16S/2 stretch cotton nylon is made by blending 60% Xinjiang long-staple cotton with 40% stretchable acrylic fibers. It is spun into 16-inch single yarn through ring spinning, then doubled and twisted to form 16S/2 stretch blended yarn.
The term "stretch" refers to the process achieved through the stretch technology: By blending high-shrinkage acrylic fibers and regular acrylic short fibers in a certain proportion and spinning them, the yarn undergoes wet heat treatment with steam, hot air, or boiling water - the high-shrinkage acrylic fibers shrink significantly under heat, gathering in the center of the yarn to form a "core layer"; the low-shrinkage fibers are squeezed to the surface of the yarn to form a circular curving structure, ultimately forming a "core-shell structure", achieving a fluffy, elastic, and highly insulating stretch effect.
This structure enables 16S/2 stretch cotton nylon to possess the dual advantages of cotton and acrylic - it has the simplicity, softness, sweat absorption, and breathability of cotton, as well as the luster, smoothness, fluffiness, warmth retention, elasticity, and anti-tangle properties of acrylic, and it can be shaped, has a light weight, and does not irritate the skin.
Products Description
Expanding "skin-core" structure, fluffy and warm - high-shrinkage acrylic as the core + regular fibers as the skin. The yarn has a fluffy volume and a heat insulation performance far exceeding that of wool. It is the "artificial wool" for the autumn and winter yarns.
Dual advantages of cotton and acrylic, complementing each other's shortcomings - cotton provides sweat absorption, breathability, simplicity, and skin-friendliness; acrylic provides fluffiness, warmth, elasticity, luster, anti-torsion, and resistance to sunlight. The 60/40 ratio achieves the best balance.
Medium-fine 16S/2, 14 needles optimal - Nm 16/2 ≈ metric 32 double strands, the coarse yarn feels fluffy and thick, suitable for 3-16 needles cross machines, and the 14-needle weaving effect is the best.
Anti-torsion + setting ability - the acrylic component gives the yarn anti-torsion and setting ability, the finished product is stiff and does not deform, and is more "resistant" than pure cotton knitted shirts.
Resistant to sunlight, ironable - acrylic has the second-best light resistance after polyester, resistant to sunlight, heat, and can be ironed. The finished product is convenient for care.
Ring spinning + double twisting, strong and reliable - ring spinning combed/slightly combed + electric cleaning without knots + double twisting of strands, typical strength 800 CN/tex, twist 600 TPM, yarn consistency CV 12.8%, hairiness index 0.2, cotton knots 3 per gram, quality up to national standard excellent.

Application scenario
The count of the 16S/2 stretch cotton nylon is "medium-coarse double-strand stretch". It combines both loftiness and warmth. Its core application scenarios are in autumn and winter knitwear/men's wear.
Knitted & woven garments (maximum single): 16S/2 stretch cotton nylon is the main yarn count for 7-12 needle flat knitting sweaters. The fabric is soft and fluffy, with strong warmth retention.
Fashion women's wear, men's wear, children's wear: Bright colors, soft texture, especially popular among children's wear.
Business polo shirts, shirts: The combination of "cotton texture + nylon luster" of stretch cotton nylon is a classic choice for business knitwear.
Sportswear, pants: Nylon elasticity + cotton moisture absorption, standard for sportswear category.
Hand-knitting thread: 16S/2 has an appropriate thickness, a popular count among hand knitters, used for knitting sweaters, scarves, hats, gloves.
Scarves, hats, gloves, shawls: Soft and warm, the first choice for autumn and winter accessories.
Couch blankets, carpets, cushions: Home knitwear yarn.
Socks
Business socks, gentleman's socks: 60/40 cotton-nylon ratio, sweat absorption + breathability + durability + elasticity, classic formula for business socks.

Q: What are the differences between 16S/2 foam cotton and ordinary 16S/2 cotton-acrylic?
A: The core is the "foaming process". Ordinary 16S/2 cotton-acrylic is a blend of 60% cotton and 40% ordinary acrylic; 16S/2 foam cotton-acrylic uses high-shrinkage acrylic and undergoes wet heat treatment to form a "skin-core" foaming structure, with a 30-50% increase in loft and a warmth level close to that of wool. The feel, warmth, and price are all different.
Q: Can the proportion of 60% cotton + 40% acrylic be changed?
A: Customization is possible. A 50/50 blend has a stronger foaming effect and slightly weaker cotton feel; a 70/30 blend has a stronger cotton feel and slightly weaker foaming effect; a 60/40 blend is the industry-proven optimal balance point. Other ratios (such as 55% acrylic / 45% cotton, 60% acrylic / 40% cotton) can also be customized.
Q: What is the equivalent needle count of 16S/2 on a flat knitting machine?
A: 16S/2 is a medium-thick double-strand, suitable for 3-16 needle knitting machines, with the best effect at 14 needles. Coarser counts (such as 10S/2, 8S/2) are suitable for 7-9 needles; finer counts (21S/2, 32S/2) are suitable for 16-18 needles.
Q: Will foam cotton-acrylic shed fibers?
A: Compared to pure cotton knitwear, foam cotton-acrylic has better anti-shedding performance - the acrylic component provides shape retention and elasticity, and the cotton fibers are "locked" by the acrylic, significantly improving the shedding level. However, when making the finished product, it is recommended to wash it on the reverse side and avoid high-temperature ironing to extend the anti-shedding lifespan.
