Products Description

The 2/80NM ultra-fine wool yarn is made from 100% ultra-fine Merino wool (fiber diameter 17.5-18.5 μm, with an average of ≤ 19.5 μm), and is spun through a refined wool spinning system (washing → combing → double combing → coarse yarn → fine yarn → twisting → doubling). It is a double-strand twisted yarn.
The term "2/80NM" means two 80-count single yarns combined - the count of 80 is extremely high (a single kilogram of yarn can reach up to 80,000 meters). The single yarn is already extremely fine, and after being twisted together, the strength increases, the yarn texture becomes more uniform, the hairiness is reduced, and the hand feel becomes smoother and more mellow. The fineness of the "ultra-fine wool" fibers determines the softness and high-end feel of the yarn - the finer the fiber, the lower the bending stiffness, and the softer the fabric's skin-contacting sensation, and the lower the itching sensation.

Products features

Superfine Merino wool, fiber ≤ 18.5μm - Selectively sourced from Australian/New Zealand, featuring fibers with a diameter of 17.5 - 18.5μm. It has a smooth and soft texture, adheres closely to the skin without causing itching, and is a luxury-grade raw material.
Combed spinning + double twisting, excellent yarn quality - Combing removes short fibers and impurities, ensuring parallel and straight fibers; after double twisting of multiple strands, the yarn CV% reaches the Uster 5% level, resulting in a smooth and shiny fabric without any shadows.
Anti-torsion grade ≥ 4 (National Standard 5th grade standard) - Combing + high twist + the ultra-fine fibers themselves are not prone to tangling, making the garment have excellent anti-torsion performance, meeting the QC standards of high-end brands.
Optional silk finishing / Basolan treatment - Silk finishing gives the wool a silky luster and smooth feel; Basolan treatment (Basolan) makes the wool softer, shrink-resistant, and less prone to tangling, making it the preferred finishing treatment for luxury underwear and close-fitting wear.

FAQ

Q: Is 2/80NM and 80/2 NM the same thing?
A: They are different expressions of the same thing. 2/80NM = 80/2 NM = a double strand of 80-count single yarn. The industry code is often written as 80/2 NM or 2/80 NM.
Q: How many English counts is 2/80NM equivalent to?
A: 80 NM (count) ≈ 47 Ne (conversion formula: 1 NM ≈ 0.591 Ne). The equivalent count after doubling is approximately 40 NM (≈ 24 Ne), but the strength and texture are much better than single yarn at 40 NM.
Q: What are the differences between superfine merino and ordinary merino?
A: The core difference lies in the fiber fineness. Ordinary merino wool has a diameter of 21-24 μm; superfine merino (Extra Fine) is ≤ 19.5 μm; superfine merino (Superfine) is ≤ 17.5 μm. The finer the fiber, the softer the fabric, the more skin-friendly and less itchy, and the softer the luster. However, the cost is higher and the difficulty of resisting pilling is greater. 2/80NM usually uses a 17.5-18.5 μm superfine grade to balance the feel and processability.
Q: Can silk finishing and barsoona be done together?
A: Usually, one of them is chosen. Silk finishing aims for luster and smoothness; barsoona aims for softness and shrink resistance. The two have different processing routes, and it is rare to combine them. If both luster and softness are desired, it is recommended to do silk finishing first and then do the softening treatment (non-barsoona process).
