Cotton Yarn 16/2

Cotton yarn 16/2 belongs to the medium-thick double-ply cotton yarn in the imperial system of yarn counts. Its core identity is "a double-ply yarn formed by combining and twisting two 16-yarn-count single yarns together". In the classification of yarn thickness, it falls within the medium-thick to thick range, and is a "framework-type" yarn variety that is widely used in both weaving and knitting fields.

1) Count and Count Uniformity
Nominal Count: Ne 16/2 (Two 16-inch single yarns combined into one strand)
Actual Count Tolerance of Single Yarn: Commonly controlled within ±1.5% (Good factories can achieve ±1.0%)
Count Deviation after Bundling: Need to consider the length contraction caused by twisting (twist contraction rate), usually controlled within ±2% of the nominal value
Count CV% (Count Inhomogeneity): For 16s single yarn, the stable level is commonly in the range of ≈1.2–2.0%, and it improves due to the merging effect after bundling
2) Twist / Twist Direction (Adjustment Knob for Feel and Strength)
16/2 involves two parameters: single yarn twist and bundled yarn twist. The relationship between them determines the final performance of the yarn.
Single Yarn Twist: 16s single yarn is commonly about ≈16–22 TPI (≈630–870 TPM), and the twist direction is usually Z twist
Bundled Yarn Twist: Usually about 55%–70% of the single yarn twist, the twist direction is opposite to the single yarn (i.e., S twist), to achieve torque balance and prevent yarn knotting. Commonly, the bundled yarn twist is about ≈10–15 TPI (≈390–590 TPM)
Twist Coefficient (αe): For single yarn, it is approximately ≈3.8–4.5, and the overall performance after bundling depends on the combination of the two
Twist Direction Combination: The most commonly used is Z/S (single yarn Z twist, bundled yarn S twist), and it can also be customized according to customer requirements
3) Strength Performance
The strength of 16/2 double yarn is much higher than that of the same count single yarn, which is one of its main selling points.
Single Yarn Strength (16s single yarn): Approximately ≈400–550 gf (depending on the yarn blend and process)
Double Yarn Strength: Usually可达 ≈700–1100 gf, about 1.8–2.2 times that of the single yarn
CSP (Lea CSP / Thread Breaking Strength)： 16/2 is commonly ≈2800–3500+ (finishing will be higher)
RKM / Breaking Length： Commonly ≈14–17 g/tex​ range
Elongation Rate： Generally ≈5.0–7.0%​ level, the double yarn is slightly lower than the single yarn
