Acrylic yarn, especially in hank form, is very common in the textile industry.
Hank yarn refers to yarn that has been wound into a hank (coil) after dyeing and finishing, rather than onto a bobbin.
This form is particularly suitable for dyeing and post-processing.

Main Advantages
Excellent Warmth
The structural characteristics of acrylic fiber give it low thermal conductivity and a large air storage capacity, resulting in excellent warmth retention, comparable to or even superior to wool, earning it the reputation of "synthetic wool." This makes acrylic hank yarn an ideal material for winter warm fabrics such as sweaters, scarves, and hats.
Fluffy and Soft, with an Excellent Handfeel
Acrylic yarn has a very fluffy texture and a soft, full feel.
Hank yarn, when dyed in a loose-dyeing process, maintains this loftiness, making garments light and comfortable to wear without feeling heavy or oppressive.
Vibrant Colors and Excellent Dyeing Performance
Hank yarn is ideal for hank dyeing. Acrylic fiber has a strong affinity for cationic dyes (basic dyes), resulting in exceptionally vibrant, vibrant colors with excellent colorfastness and resistance to fading. Hank-dyed yarns achieve uniform color throughout the yarn, a major advantage.

Lightweight
Acrylic has a lower density than wool (approximately 1.17 g/cm³ for acrylic and 1.32 g/cm³ for wool). Therefore, yarns of the same thickness and length are lighter, resulting in lighter, less bulky garments.
Mold and moth-resistant, easy to care for
As a chemically synthesized fiber, it is insect-resistant and resists mold.
Daily care is simple, drying quickly after washing, retaining its shape well, and resisting wrinkles, generally requiring less extensive care than wool.
Good lightfastness
Acrylic has one of the best sunlight resistance of all textile fibers. It is well-suited for outdoor items such as tents, car covers, and blankets, where prolonged exposure to sunlight significantly reduces its strength and color.
Cost-Effective
Compared to natural wool, acrylic is significantly cheaper. Products made from acrylic hanks offer a low cost and excellent value, allowing consumers to obtain wool-like warmth and appearance at a more affordable price.

Major Disadvantages and Precautions
Poor Moisture Absorption and Breathability
This is the primary disadvantage of acrylic.
It absorbs virtually no moisture (standard moisture regain is only 1.2-2.0%), easily generating static electricity, which can cause a stuffy feeling when worn.
Sweat is difficult to dissipate, making it less comfortable next to the skin than natural fibers. This is often improved through blending (such as with cotton or viscose).
Prone to Pilling
Due to the fiber's high strength and smooth surface, fiber ends can easily slip out of the yarn structure and become entangled after friction, forming pilling, which affects appearance. Yarn twist and finishing processes can reduce pilling to some extent, but cannot completely prevent it.
Poor Heat Resistance
Acrylic fibers soften or even melt at high temperatures (190-230°C).
Therefore, extreme caution is required when ironing.
Use low temperatures or use a cloth to iron, otherwise the garment may be damaged.
Requires rewinding
For large knitting factories, hank yarn requires rewinding (rewinding onto a cone) before knitting, adding an extra step.
However, for craft enthusiasts (such as hand knitters), hank yarn is very convenient and ready for immediate use.
